Exploring the Future of Happiness

EffortAll right folks, your assignment is to do questions 1, 2, 4, 5, and 7 on page 629 of The Language of Composition.

I prefer that you turn this one in on your blog, but I will accept paper as well.  This is due tomorrow whether it is on paper or the blog.

Some of you are falling off a bit on your homework completion.  Don't let it become a habit.

  1. I cannot explain in words how frustrated I am with this blog. I am in tears right now because of how difficult this thing is making my life. I'm not bashing on your idea to use it, because it's working really well for most people it's just frusrating me so much. I returned to the blog to attempt to publish this assignment. I hit post and everything was working okay, until I checked my page. There wa the title, clear as day, and under it...absolutely nothing. I checked under my drafts, all blank. I typed all five responses, each one about two paragraphs, all gone. I didn't have it saved anywhere else and now have to redo it, which wil not be easy considering I'm...very angry, I'll just say that. So, I'm sorry if it doesn't get done, but I'm feeling like a faliure at life right now, just so you know.

  2. Oh dear, oh dear...Don't cry Alix! I love you! You are NOT a failure and the world is NOT out to get you, I promise. (I know it seems like it is.) Life just sucks sometimes. Ok, maybe more than sometimes... Life tends to adopt qualities of sucky-ness extremely often. That's all.

Oh, and a P.S. to Mr. Giddings:

Who are the "Butterworth Dolphins"? And more importantly, where did this bright yellow badge of effort with a seahorse on it come from? It is most amusing.

  3. Alix,
I'm sooooo sorry this is giving you fits. I'm confused about why, but it's given you trouble from the beginning when it wouldn't send you your confirmation email. I don't think it is you.

I'm not sure if this will work, but in one of the help blogs, someone was saying they were having trouble with the Hemingway theme. Try changing your theme and see if that changes anything (i.e. shows anything that Hemingway isn't--remember how it wasn't showing your link before?).

Until we get this ironed out, when you post to the blog, maybe compose in a word processor and cut and paste it into your blog to save yourself some frustration. Learning to use new technology often comes with headaches. We'll see what we can do to lessen them. Maybe you could stay after class for a few minutes and we can look at what's going on.

    Mr. Giddings

PS You're NOT a failure at life. You're very smart and definitely not a failure.

  4. Danielle,
I don't know who they are, but I searched google for effort images for something to spice things up and it was just too kitsch to pass up!
